Making the Case for Comprehensive Tobacco-Free School Policies
Below you will find a collection of Policy Folders.
The intent of a policy folder is to assist you in informing and educating different leaders in your community on the issue of comprehensive tobacco-free schools.
The North Carolina Policy Folder contains documents developed by the North Carolina Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch. These documents were used by North Carolina health advocates to make the case for comprehensive tobacco-free school policies. This Policy Folder serves as an excellent and effective example.
A template folder has been created for individuals or organizations to use to develop Policy Folder based on specific information from their state. The template folder offers suggestions for what types of information to include, how to present the information, and what types of information you may think about collecting if you if you have not already done so.
As someone involved in tobacco prevention, you are a resource of information, and developing a policy folder allows you to be “the expert” on this issue. An individualized policy folder allows you to:
1. Present clear, concise and organized information when meeting with a policymaker.
2. Share information that can be passed along easily when meeting with a staffer or leaving materials for a policymaker.
3. Share accurate information with anyone seeking it.
As you develop your own policy folder, we encourage you to share your materials so they can be included as a policy folder and guide others doing this very important work. Please submit your policy folder here.
