David S. Byer, Development Committee Chair


David ByerDavid Byer leads Apple’s federal policy, advocacy, and strategic relations efforts in K-20. Byer joined Apple in 2000 after serving as executive director of the Web-based Education Commission, a bipartisan Congressional commission focused on maximizing the educational benefit of the Internet.

Byer previously served as vice president of government affairs at the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), and held similar advocacy positions with the American Society for Training and Development, National School Boards Association, and National Association of College and University Business Officers. He began his career on Capitol Hill as an assistant to former U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell of Rhode Island.

In 2005 Byer was elected to a second term on the board of the International Society for Technology in Education where he chairs its public policy committee and corporate sector council. He is immediate past-president of the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training and served on SIIA’s education division board and the executive board of the Committee for Education Funding.

Byer received BA and MBA degrees from the George Washington University and was named 2005 Consortium for School Networking “Private Sector Champion.”
