Martha G. Fluor, Secretary


Martha G. Fluor, a board member of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District in Orange County, is the Region 15 Director of the California School Boards Association, representing Orange County.  She has served on the Board of Directors since 2005.

Fluor has served on the Board of Trustees for NMUSD since 1991.  She also serves on the Board of Trustees of  Coastline Regional Occupational Program.  She serves as a liaison to various district committees, including the School Attendance Review Board, CIF, Wellness and Nutrition, and Project ASK.  She was a special education teacher for four year in the Orange Unified School District, as well as a bi-lingual instructional aide in Newport-Mesa.

Fluor is also involved in many community organizations.  She currently serves on the Girl Scout Council of Orange County Board of Directors and the KOCE-TV (PBS) Foundation Board.  Her previous non-profit involvement has included service on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), Discovery Science Center, and the Newport Beach Public Library.  She is a member of the Junior League of Orange County and a former board member of the Assistance League of Newport-Mesa.

She is an active member of  NSBA, attending Annual Conferences and FRN.  Her local school board is a NSBA National Affiliate member. She is the Federal Governmental Relations Chair for Congressman John Campbell.  She is currently serving on the California School Board Association Board of Directors, representing Orange County, Region 15.

Fluor earned her Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State University and holds two credentials in elementary and special education.  Her previous employment includes teaching special education students in the Orange Unified School District and serving as Fund Development Director for The Mardan School, a private school serving special education students.

She is the proud mom five children and is raising her two granddaughters, Samantha (10 years) and Taylor (3 years).  She is a member of every PTA/PFO unit in her district (30) and serves as the PTA Treasurer for her granddaughters’ elementary school.  She also produces the Sonora Elementary yearbook and is the Washington Mutual School Savings coordinator at two schools.
