Robert Rader has a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and a J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University. He also has an associate's degree in risk management and a CAE (Certified Association Executive designation) from the American Society of Association Executives. Rader joined the New York State School Boards Association in 1981 as Assistant Counsel. He worked at NYSSBA in a variety of positions, including Legislative representative, Director of Risk Management Services and Director of Policy and Employee Relations Services. In 1996, he was appointed executive director of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE). In this position he has:

  • bolstered the Association's fiscal condition by increasing the number of CABE members and affiliates;
  • strengthened and increased CABE's services and activities, especially training for school board members;
  • increased the frequency of publication of the CABE Journal and enhanced its quality;
  • increased CABE's advocacy efforts and visibility as the leading voice for public education in Connecticut;
  • developed stronger coalitions with representatives of education and government groups in Connecticut; and
  • enhanced the use of and modernization of technology in the CABE office.

He is a past chair of the NSBA Liaison Committee and member of the NSBA Board of Directors.  Rader is a member of American Society of Association Executives and serves as a past president of the Connecticut chapter.
