Iowa Association of School Boards
Dr. Ronald M. Rice is executive director of the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB). IASB is a private nonprofit organization that represents the state’s more than 2100 locally elected school board members. All 365 Iowa school boards, all 11 of the state’s area education agencies and Iowa community colleges are members of the association.
Located in Des Moines, IASB provides a broad range of services to help school board members be effective leaders of their schools. The association’s services include advice on school policy, assistance with a variety of school management issues and providing a comprehensive training program for school board members.
Rice became executive director of the association in July of 1996. He had previously been superintendent of the Ames, Iowa, Community Schools for nine years. He has also been superintendent of schools in Hudson, Wisconsin, and is a former principal and school psychologist. In all, he has over 30 years of experience in education, virtually all of it in Iowa. He earned his Ph.D. in education administration from Iowa State University.
He has two daughters, Cassie and Lindsey.
