Timothy G. Kremer is the executive director of the New York State School Boards Association. He was appointed to the position effective August 1, 1998. As NYSSBA’s chief executive officer, Kremer provides assertive leadership in developing the Association’s program and services in line with its mission of providing advocacy, information, leadership development and customized consulting for the state’s 5,000 school board members. He is a frequent spokesman for NYSSBA to the public, media, legislative bodies and other related organizations. He is also a sought-after presenter at various professional workshops and seminars. Before joining the Association, Kremer was the deputy executive director of the Ohio School Boards Association where he was employed for 19 years.
Kremer’s areas of expertise include association management, legislative advocacy, school board governance, leadership development, organizational change and communications. Kremer has co-authored three handbooks: one on the school board presidency, a second on the school board/superintendent relationship and a third regarding the school district management teams.
At present, Kremer is vice chair of the Educational Conference Board. He is also a member of the Boards of Directors of the Magellan Foundation, the School Leaders Risk Management Association, the Operation Public Education National Advisory Board at the University of Pennsylvania and the Institute for New Era Educational Leadership at the College of St. Rose.
Kremer has a master’s degree in public administration from Ohio State University, where he specialized in human resource administration and organizational development. He also earned a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, majoring in political science. Kremer and his wife, Jaye, are the parents of three sons: Terry, Mike and Matt.
