Want to be better at what you do and make your district stand out? Along with the opportunities offered by your State School Boards Association, NSBA offers a wealth of learning opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills on today's public education issues. In-person, online or on the phone, there is opportunity for everyone.

Conferences:

  • NSBA's Annual Conference - Whether you are a brand new board member or a veteran, a board support professional or a superintendent, the conference will provide you with the tools you need to tackle and manage important issues in your school district. The conference will be held in San Diego, April 4-7, 2009.
  • CUBE - The Council of Urban Boards of Education's annual issues seminar will be held in Miami, June 19-22, 2008.

Site Visits:

  • Register now to attend a TLN Site Visit to see how various solutions and strategies function for faculty, students, and the district as a whole. Visits will be March 24-26, 2008: Kent School District in Kent, Washington; and May 4-6, 2008: Batavia City School District in Batavia, New York.

Key Work of School Boards - The Key Work of School Boards is a framework of eight essential key action areas that focus and guide schools boards in their efforts to improve student achievement.

Center for Public Education - The Center is a national resource for accurate, timely, and credible information about public education and its importance to the well-being of our nation.

Legal Advocacy - NSBA offers an array of resources that help school boards and school attorneys to understand this legal environment, to keep up to date with new and emerging legal developments, and to anticipate, prevent, and overcome legal challenges.

  • American School Board Journal is an award-winning, editorially independent education magazine published monthly by NSBA which chronicles change, interprets issues, and offers readers practical advice on a broad range of topics pertinent to school governance and management, policy making, student achievement, and the art of school leadership.
  • Legal Clips - NSBA's Office of General Counsel offers Legal Clips, a free e-mail service which provides subscribers with weekly updates on important and interesting school law issues.
  • CPE E-newsletter - Keep abreast of all the latest tools and research available from the Center for Public Education by subscribing for its e-updates. The monthly Pre-K newsletter is also helpful.
