2008 FRN Notebook
This book contains a wide array of information. It is designed to provide you with varying levels of detail on issues, so that you can go in-depth if you like, or obtain a general summary. When you use this book, keep the following in mind:
- Focus on Tab 2 for your Capitol Hill briefing papers on NSBA’s top five issues: Improving the No Child Left Behind Act, Federal Funding for Education and Medicaid Reimbursement, and Forecasting the Future – Five Emerging Issues. In Tab 2, the Issue Briefs are the most important and should get your more detailed attention. The Arguments and Rebuttals that follow the Issue Briefs will help you handle tough questions during your visits with your members of Congress.
- Review Tab 3 for tips on strategies for effective advocacy that can help you with your meetings with members of Congress and your local advocacy efforts throughout the year.
- Tab 4 contains background information on NSBA’s top issues. If you would like more details on the issues covered in Tab 2, look here.
- Review Tab 5 to find information on Additional Issues. The other topics covered include: Teacher Quality, Private School Vouchers, Higher Education, American Competitiveness and School Construction.
- Find your members’ voting records. Tab 7 contains key votes during the 110th Congress. This is a way for you to find out how your members of Congress voted on a range of education issues.
- Think of how all these issues impact your school district as you review this book. It is extremely effective to provide local illustrations and examples when meeting with your members of Congress.
